Black Eye Susan formed in the winter of 2000 on the campus of Plymouth State College (now University). Consisting of Otto Kinzel, Jeremiah Thomas, Steve Lee and Steve Bradbury, the goal was to mix Techno and House beats with hard edge guitar and Industrial elements, to create something in the vein of "Techno-Metal", or a more dance-Esq. Industrial genre.

Black Eye Susan released a four song E.P. and were working on a full-length album before disbanding in early 2003. This project proved to be the early inspiration for some of Otto’s future works, including
Chemical Distance, who ended up developing a more “mature” version of this sound. It’s what BES could’ve been.

BES also proved to be the start for a long term working relationship with several of the band members. Otto and Jeremiah went on to record and perform together in
Burden of Liberty; and Otto and Steve Bradbury would work together in Lithermen’s Load and also in Chemical Distance (Bradbury provided turntables and scratching on two songs off The Pain & The Progress , Sugar and Golden Child).

The four BES songs from that 2002 E.P have been added to the
